Looking for a job working for a company with an Allentown zip code? The great news is that in the third largest city in Pennsylvania, there are plenty of good jobs to be found. In fact, it is a major center for several businesses in the manufacturing and production sectors. While the city is not home to any notable strapping machine manufacturer, several other niches are represented in the factories and businesses in the industrial areas of the city. Let's take a look at a couple of them.
D'Andrea
If you play guitar, then you have probably heard of the company D'Andrea. It is the biggest pick company in the world, and believe it or not there is a manufacturing plant right here in Allentown. As you can imagine, any plant which makes picks produces them by the thousands each day, and the operation here is no exception. Watch out, though, that high temperature insulation is around for a reason; the materials to make these tools are highly flammable!
Mack Trucks
Legendary Mack Trucks used to have their headquarters right in Allentown, but corporate has recently moved on. There are still a couple of plants operating in the area, though, with workers assembling these Big Rigs from tail pipe to front license plate bracket. It's a niche market, but one which continues to do well even in a recession.
PPL
Another company with both corporate headquarters and operation plants in Allentown, PPL is in the energy production business. The plants themselves require several hundred people to operate, incorporating systems from computer engineering to suction diffusers. It's one of the biggest power suppliers in the States, and supplies electricity to locations as far away as the United Kingdom.
Air Products and Chemicals
Ever wonder where that oxygen used to help people breathe in the hospital comes from? Well, it is bottled by companies such as Air Products and Chemicals, which is based right here in Allentown.
The company came into existence during World War II, when oxygen masks were needed to help soldiers breathe during chemical attacks. Today, pneumatic conveyor systems in the company's plants help move the bottling process along for a number of different products. Oxygen, hydrogen, natural gas, and specialty chemicals are all condensed and packaged in this highly technical environment.
Allentown has a strong history in the manufacturing and production industries. You'll find everything from technical to blue collar work in the plants and factories of this town.
